Nationals rally with three in the eighth, hold off Angels 4-3

Jorbit Vivas's two-run double put Washington ahead in the eighth, and Erik Tolman closed out a one-run ninth.

The Washington Nationals scored three runs in the eighth inning to beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-3 on Friday night at Nationals Park.

Mike Trout homered to center in the top of the first for a 1-0 Angels lead. James Wood tied it in the fourth with a single that scored Harry Ford. Christian Moore put Los Angeles back in front in the seventh, singling home Vaughn Grissom.

Washington took the lead in the eighth. Andrew Pinckney's sacrifice fly scored CJ Abrams to tie it, and Jorbit Vivas doubled to right to bring in Dylan Crews and Yohandy Morales for a 4-2 edge. Moore doubled in Oswald Peraza in the ninth to cut the deficit to one, but the Angels got no closer.

Clayton Beeter earned the win with a scoreless eighth. Samy Natera Jr. took the loss after allowing three runs on three hits in one inning. Erik Tolman gave up a run in the ninth but recorded the save.

Nationals starter Cade Cavalli pitched six innings, allowing two runs on three hits with two walks and nine strikeouts. Angels starter Yusei Kikuchi went four innings and gave up one run on three hits with four walks and five strikeouts.

Moore went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for Los Angeles. Abrams had two hits, including a double, for Washington, and Vivas drove in two. Attendance was 17,061.
