Isaac Paredes homered to left-center in the top of the first for a 1-0 Houston lead. Richie Palacios put the Rays ahead in the bottom of the fifth with a single to center that scored Victor Mesa Jr. and Chandler Simpson. Yainer Diaz singled home Jose Altuve in the sixth to tie it at 2, and Nick Madrigal's sacrifice fly to center in the seventh scored Kenny Piper for the 3-2 lead.
Tyler Wells earned the win with a hitless seventh, walking 1 and striking out 2. Ty Johnson followed with two-thirds of an inning, and Bryan Baker got the last four outs for the save, allowing 1 hit. Peter Lambert took the loss for Houston after giving up 3 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings with no walks and 4 strikeouts.
Ian Seymour started for Tampa Bay and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 6 innings with 1 walk and 10 strikeouts. The Rays' staff struck out 14 Houston batters in all.
Diaz went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Astros, who finished with 5 hits. Palacios drove in two of Tampa Bay's three runs, and the Rays had 7 hits. Attendance was 24,642.
