Padres hold off Giants 7-5 after Devers grand slam
San Diego scored five in the third inning, and its bullpen held after Rafael Devers pulled San Francisco within two in the fifth.

The San Diego Padres beat the San Francisco Giants 7-5 on Friday night at Oracle Park, building a 7-1 lead through three innings and then holding on after a Rafael Devers grand slam.
Bryce Eldridge singled home Jonah Cox in the bottom of the first. San Diego went ahead in the second when Dustin Harris singled in Jackson Merrill and Freddy Fermin doubled to center to score Harris. The third produced five runs: Luis Campusano doubled to score Jake Cronenworth, Xander Bogaerts doubled to bring in Campusano and Merrill, Harris tripled to right to score Bogaerts, and Fermin doubled again to score Harris for a 7-1 lead.
Devers hit a grand slam to right in the fifth, scoring Andrew Knizner, Christian Koss and Cox, to make it 7-5. The Giants did not score again.
Robbie Ray earned the win, allowing five runs on four hits with four walks and five strikeouts in five innings. Anthony Molina took the loss after giving up seven runs on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts in three innings. Yunior Marte followed with five scoreless innings for San Francisco. Mason Miller worked around two walks in the ninth for the save.
Merrill went 3 for 5 with a double and two runs. Harris was 2 for 3 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs, Fermin had two doubles and two RBIs, and Bogaerts drove in two. Devers finished with four RBIs. Attendance was 38,381.
