Guardians score three in the ninth, beat Twins 5-2

Angel Martínez homered to tie the game in the seventh and scored the go-ahead run on Brayan Rocchio's ninth-inning double at Target Field.

The Cleveland Guardians scored three runs in the ninth inning to beat the Minnesota Twins 5-2 on Friday night at Target Field.

Minnesota led from the second, when Royce Lewis doubled to left to score Kody Clemens. Twins starter Taj Bradley held Cleveland to one hit over six innings, walking four and striking out six.

Cleveland went ahead in the seventh on Angel Martínez's two-run homer to left-center off A.J. Minter, which scored Travis Bazzana. Kaelen Culpepper answered in the bottom of the inning with a single that scored Austin Martin and tied it at 2.

In the ninth, Brayan Rocchio doubled to center off Yoendrys Gómez to score Martínez and Angel Genao, and Cleveland finished the inning with three runs.

Hunter Gaddis earned the win with 1.1 innings of relief. Gómez took the loss after allowing three runs on two hits with two walks in one-third of an inning. Cade Smith pitched the ninth for the save. Guardians starter Parker Messick went 5.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Martínez went 2 for 4 with a homer, a double and two RBIs. Bazzana was 2 for 2 with two walks and two runs scored, and Rocchio drove in two. Clemens had two hits for Minnesota. Attendance was 20,907.
