Cubs rally past Pirates 4-3 on a walk and a hit by pitch in the eighth

Chicago scored the tying and go-ahead runs on a bases-loaded walk and a hit by pitch after Ryan O'Hearn's three-run homer had put Pittsburgh ahead.

The Chicago Cubs scored twice in the eighth inning, on a bases-loaded walk and a hit by pitch, to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

Michael Busch homered to center in the bottom of the first, and Pedro Ramírez homered to right-center in the third for a 2-0 Chicago lead. The Pirates went ahead in the sixth when Ryan O'Hearn hit a three-run homer to right that scored Brandon Lowe and Bryan Reynolds.

In the bottom of the eighth, Matt Shaw walked with the bases loaded to score Ramírez and tie the game at 3, and Nico Hoerner was hit by a pitch to bring in Alex Bregman for the 4-3 lead. Ryan Zeferjahn recorded the final out with a strikeout for the save.

Ryan Rolison earned the win with 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Gregory Soto took the loss and the blown save; he allowed 2 runs on 1 hit with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts in the eighth.

Paul Skenes started for Pittsburgh and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, both runs on homers, in 7 innings with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Clay Holmes went 5 2/3 innings for Chicago, allowing 3 runs, 2 earned, on 5 hits with 4 walks and 6 strikeouts.
