Cubs pile up 16 hits and rout Pirates 12-2 at Wrigley

WHERE IT TURNED

The Chicago Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-2 on Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field, scoring in the second, third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings.

Pittsburgh went ahead first when Oneil Cruz singled home Konnor Griffin in the top of the first. The Cubs answered in the second with a Michael Conforto sacrifice fly and a two-run double by Carson Kelly for a 3-1 lead. Michael Busch doubled in Seiya Suzuki in the third and scored on a Nico Hoerner force out to make it 5-1. The fourth brought three more: Suzuki's RBI single, a Busch sacrifice fly, and Alex Bregman's two-run homer to left for a 9-1 margin.

Bryan Reynolds homered to left in the sixth for Pittsburgh's second run. Chicago added two in the bottom half on a Busch single and a Tyrone Taylor sacrifice fly, and Pete Crow-Armstrong's seventh-inning single scored Pedro Ramírez for the final run.

Shota Imanaga earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts over six innings. Wilber Dotel took the loss after giving up three runs on four hits in two innings with no walks and one strikeout.

Suzuki went 3 for 5 with a triple and three runs scored. Bregman finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs, Busch drove in three, Kelly had two hits and two RBIs, and Hoerner also had two hits. Griffin was 2 for 4 with a triple for the Pirates. Attendance was 39,190.
