Phillies break a 2-2 tie with seven runs in the eighth, beat Braves 9-4

Five consecutive Philadelphia run-scoring hits off Dylan Lee and Victor Mederos turned a tie game into a rout at Truist Park.

Philadelphia scored seven runs in the top of the eighth inning and beat Atlanta 9-4 on Sunday at Truist Park.

The Braves led 1-0 after Drake Baldwin's sacrifice fly scored Michael Harris II in the first. J.T. Realmuto's two-run homer to left center in the second, scoring Brandon Marsh, put the Phillies up 2-1, and the score held until Matt Olson singled home Harris in the seventh to tie it.

The eighth began with Alec Bohm's double to center that scored Trea Turner and Bryce Harper for a 4-2 lead. Bryson Stott singled in Bohm, Realmuto singled in Stott, Kyle Schwarber singled home Bryan De La Cruz and Realmuto, and Turner singled in Justin Crawford to make it 9-2. Olson's two-run homer to left center in the ninth, scoring Ronald Acuña Jr., closed the scoring.

José Alvarado earned the win despite allowing the tying run in the seventh. Dylan Lee took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits while recording two outs; Victor Mederos followed and allowed three runs without retiring a batter.

Andrew Painter started for Philadelphia and allowed one run on six hits with four walks and three strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Grant Holmes went 4.0 innings for Atlanta, allowing two runs on five hits with two walks.

Realmuto went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI, Stott was 3-for-5, and Harper doubled twice among 16 Philadelphia hits. Olson finished 3-for-5 with three RBI, and Harris and Mauricio Dubón had three hits each. Attendance was 39,830.
