No. 4 Texas beat No. 1 Ohio State 24-23 on Saturday night at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter after trailing 23-3.
Ohio State controlled the first three quarters. Connor Hawkins' 26-yard field goal at 12:04 of the first and Ja'Kobi Jackson's 8-yard run at 5:39 made it 10-0. Gianni Spetic's 37-yard field goal at 5:42 of the second got Texas on the board, but Hawkins kicked a 30-yarder at 1:41 and Julian Sayin found Jeremiah Smith from 19 yards with 0:10 left for a 20-3 halftime lead. Hawkins' 48-yard field goal at 8:09 of the third made it 23-3.
Texas then scored three times without an answer. Arch Manning's 3-yard pass to Ryan Wingo at 14:19 of the fourth made it 23-10, Hollywood Smothers ran in from 1 yard at 7:14, and Smothers scored again from 1 yard with 0:25 left for the Longhorns' first lead.
Sayin was 17 of 32 for 278 yards with a touchdown and an interception; Smith caught 8 passes for 164 yards. Manning completed 23 of 37 for 195 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and Smothers carried 21 times for 74 yards. Texas converted 9 of 16 third downs and held the ball for 31:28; Ohio State had 372 total yards to Texas' 336. Attendance was 105,044.
