Vanderbilt beat Delaware 35-26 on Saturday at FirstBank Stadium in Nashville, recovering from a halftime deficit with a 21-point third quarter.
Jared Curtis scored on a 1-yard run with 1:19 left in the first quarter and Sedrick Alexander added a 9-yard run as the quarter ended for a 14-0 Vanderbilt lead. Delaware took the second quarter: Tucker Smack's 37-yard field goal at 12:51, Viron Ellison Jr.'s 1-yard run at 1:56, and Bryson Graves' touchdown on a blocked punt with 0:17 left gave the Blue Hens a 17-14 halftime edge.
Vanderbilt answered with three third-quarter touchdowns. Curtis ran in from 1 yard at 11:05, Austin Howard scored on a blocked punt at 9:30, and Curtis threw 19 yards to Walter Taylor as the quarter ended for a 35-17 lead. Delaware got a 40-yard Smack field goal at 11:55 of the fourth and Nick Minicucci's 43-yard pass to Da'Wain Lofton at 6:37; the two-point pass failed.
Curtis completed 14 of 22 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown, and Junior Sherrill caught 5 passes for 94 yards. CJ Heard had two sacks. Minicucci was 11 of 27 for 182 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions; Lofton caught 4 passes for 142 yards, and Jo Silver ran 16 times for 109 yards. Delaware converted 3 of 15 third downs. Attendance was 35,000.
