West Virginia scored 21 points in the first quarter and beat UT Martin 52-7 on Saturday at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown.
Michael Hawkins Jr. threw 53 yards to DJ Epps at 12:08 of the first quarter, Cam Cook ran in from 2 yards at 9:11 and Hawkins added a 71-yard run at 5:27 for a 21-0 lead. A 5-yard Hawkins run at 11:30 of the second made it 28-0 at halftime. In the third, Hawkins hit Ryan Ward from 32 yards at 12:57, Amari Latimer ran 29 yards at 9:56 and Jack Cassidy kicked a 35-yard field goal at 1:35 for a 45-0 margin. Jyron Hughley's 27-yard pass to Kedrick Triplett at 7:07 of the fourth made it 52-0. UT Martin's only score was a 6-yard fumble return by John Betts III with 3:25 left.
Hawkins finished 5 of 7 for 155 yards and two touchdowns and ran 6 times for 96 yards and two more. Epps caught 2 passes for 112 yards. West Virginia ran 51 times for 316 yards, totaled 525 and converted 8 of 12 third downs. Tate Surber was 19 of 28 for 137 yards with an interception for UT Martin, and Chris Franklin ran 12 times for 85 yards. The Skyhawks held the ball for 34:44 and gained 318 yards but turned it over twice. Attendance was 47,049.
