WHERE IT TURNED
No. 17 SMU beat UC Davis 56-10 on Saturday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas, with Kevin Jennings throwing five touchdown passes on 16 attempts.
Kendrick Raphael's 5-yard run at 6:40 of the first quarter and a 52-yard Jennings pass to Derrick McFall at 1:18 made it 14-0. Jennings threw 2 yards to Theo Melin Ohrstrom at 12:33 of the second, 2 yards to Randy Pittman Jr. at 10:28, 14 yards to Ohrstrom at 0:59 and 44 yards to Yannick Smith at 0:24 for a 42-0 halftime lead. An 8-yard Ty Hawkins pass to Zack Turner at 6:12 of the third made it 49-0. UC Davis got on the board with Jackson Kollock's 4-yard pass to Coby Herman at 11:18 of the fourth; Hawkins answered with a 3-yard throw to Aljour Miles II at 9:01, and Robert Meyer's 33-yard field goal at 3:35 closed it.
Jennings finished 14 of 16 for 337 yards. Yamir Knight caught 3 passes for 62 yards, and McFall ran 6 times for 46 yards. SMU threw for 454 yards and totaled 547 without a turnover. Kollock was 8 of 10 for 88 yards and a touchdown for UC Davis; Samuel Gbatu Jr. caught 5 passes for 60 yards. The Aggies held the ball for 32:40 but converted 2 of 13 third downs, gained 233 yards and turned it over twice. Attendance was 29,054.
