No. 16 Penn State beat Temple 27-9 on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
The first quarter was scoreless. Carl Hardin's 24-yard field goal at 12:00 of the second put Temple ahead 3-0, and Ryan Barker's 31-yarder at 6:51 tied it. Rocco Becht's 23-yard pass to Benjamin Brahmer with 0:08 left in the half gave the Nittany Lions a 10-3 lead. Becht hit Chase Sowell from 16 yards at 8:25 of the third, Barker added a 39-yard field goal with 0:08 left in the quarter, and Becht found Brahmer again from 23 yards at 7:48 of the fourth for a 27-3 lead. Ajani Sheppard's 3-yard run with 1:56 left produced the final score after a two-point run failed.
Becht completed 21 of 27 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns. Brahmer caught 5 for 79 yards and two scores, and Carson Hansen ran 19 times for 84 yards. Penn State totaled 416 yards, 148 of them rushing, converted 6 of 12 third downs and did not turn the ball over.
Jaxon Smolik was 10 of 16 for 59 yards with an interception for Temple. Keveun Mason ran 14 times for 76 yards, and the Owls gained 176 of their 283 yards on the ground while holding the ball for 31:11. Temple went 2 for 2 on fourth down and 4 of 12 on third. Attendance was 61,714.
