No. 14 USC beat Louisiana 49-30 on Saturday night at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, with Jayden Maiava throwing five touchdown passes.
Tony Sterner's 47-yard field goal at 11:23 of the first quarter put Louisiana ahead. Maiava threw 5 yards to Mark Bowman at 4:57 and 9 yards to Bowman at 12:31 of the second for a 14-3 lead. Steven Blanco's 1-yard run at 9:21 cut it to 14-10, then Maiava hit Kayden Dixon-Wyatt from 19 yards at 3:19 and Trent Mosley returned a punt 86 yards at 1:24 for a 28-10 halftime lead.
Maiava's 21-yard pass to Mosley at 9:48 of the third made it 35-10. Lunch Winfield's 1-yard run at 4:07 answered, and Maiava's 44-yard throw to Z. Williams at 14:19 of the fourth put USC up 42-17. Winfield's 32-yard run at 11:27 made it 42-23, King Miller ran in from 12 yards at 7:30, and Winfield's 14-yard pass to Russell Babineaux at 2:38 closed it at 49-30.
Maiava finished 19 of 29 for 261 yards with five touchdowns and an interception. Bowman caught 6 passes for 83 yards and two scores, and Miller ran 18 times for 128 yards. USC totaled 483 yards, 214 of them rushing, and converted 11 of 15 third downs. Winfield was 16 of 22 for 212 yards and ran 14 times for 91 yards and two touchdowns; Babineaux had 6 catches for 91 yards. Louisiana gained 358 yards and did not turn the ball over. Attendance was 60,019.
