San José State pulls away from Cal Poly 30-20 on Luke Weaver's third touchdown pass
Trajan Sinatra's third field goal broke a 20-20 tie and Weaver's 41-yard throw to Carson Clark sealed it at CEFCU Stadium.

San José State beat Cal Poly 30-20 on Saturday night at CEFCU Stadium, scoring 10 points in the fourth quarter after the Mustangs had tied it at 20.
The first quarter was scoreless. Fidel Pitts' 2-yard run at 14:03 of the second put Cal Poly up 6-0 after a failed extra point. Luke Weaver threw 5 yards to Carson Clark at 11:43, and Trajan Sinatra kicked field goals of 44 yards at 5:07 and 32 yards at 0:02 for a 13-6 halftime lead.
Anthony Grigsby Jr. hit Jaden Green from 6 yards at 12:41 of the third to tie it, and Weaver's 2-yard pass to Cooper Hoch at 4:29 put the Spartans back ahead 20-13. Misa Paiau's 1-yard run at 14:29 of the fourth made it 20-20. Sinatra's 40-yard field goal at 11:59 broke the tie, and Weaver found Clark for a 41-yard touchdown at 7:20.
Weaver finished 22 of 34 for 238 yards and three touchdowns. Clark caught eight passes for 81 yards and two scores, and Jabari Bates ran 27 times for 163 yards as San José State rushed for 255 and totaled 493. Grigsby was 24 of 40 for 249 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions; Pitts caught five passes for 103 yards. Cal Poly went 7 of 14 on third down; the Spartans were 3 of 12. Attendance was 15,017.
