Hawai'i beat New Mexico State 29-19 on Saturday night at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex, pulling away after the Aggies tied it at 19 early in the third quarter.
DeVon Rice ran 7 yards for a touchdown at 8:41 of the first quarter, with the extra point missed, and Sean Olvera-Harle kicked a 32-yard field goal at 4:28 for a 9-0 lead. Rice added an 11-yard run at 13:37 of the second. James Jones' 2-yard run at 10:02 and Trey Hedden's 33-yard pass to TK King at 1:17 brought New Mexico State within 16-13, and Olvera-Harle's 42-yard field goal at 0:11 made it 19-13 at halftime.
De'Marcus Peters returned a fumble 84 yards at 13:15 of the third to tie it; the extra point was blocked. Olvera-Harle answered from 33 yards at 8:46, and Tama Uiliata threw 7 yards to Frank Abreu at 5:41 of the fourth for the final margin.
Micah Alejado completed 33 of 45 passes for 346 yards, and Uiliata caught 10 for 107 in addition to his touchdown pass. Rice ran 16 times for 59 yards and two scores. Hawai'i totaled 420 yards. Hedden was 19 of 35 for 256 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, and New Mexico State turned the ball over three times. Attendance was 12,905.
