Ball State beat Stony Brook 41-17 on Saturday at Scheumann Stadium, building a 21-0 lead before halftime and answering each of the Seawolves' fourth-quarter touchdowns with a long touchdown run.
Keldric Luster threw three touchdown passes in the first half: 3 yards to Tate Hoover with 1:41 left in the first quarter, 23 yards to Jabari Smith at 9:23 of the second, and 23 yards to Jalen Bonds at 6:03. Michael Mannino's 45-yard field goal at 3:05 put Stony Brook on the board at 21-3, and that was the score through a scoreless third quarter.
Brody Boehm kicked field goals of 38 and 30 yards at 10:36 and 6:00 of the fourth to make it 27-3. Jeremiah Coney's 3-yard run and a two-point pass from Rayden Aphayvong to Quinn Boyd cut it to 27-11 with 3:18 left, but Bonds ran 49 yards for a touchdown at 3:03. Coney broke a 66-yard touchdown run at 2:26, with the two-point pass failing, and TJ Horton answered with a 54-yard run at 2:17.
Luster finished 27 of 32 for 256 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Horton ran nine times for 125 yards, and Smith caught six passes for 72 yards. Boyd was 22 of 35 for 147 yards with two interceptions for Stony Brook; Coney had 89 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. Ball State totaled 482 yards to 330 and held the ball for 33:07. Attendance was 10,390.
