Ohio beat Jacksonville State 29-27 in four overtimes on Saturday at Peden Stadium, winning on Levi Davis's two-point run after the Gamecocks had led 24-14 in the third quarter.
Caden Creel put Jacksonville State ahead with an 8-yard run at 4:54 of the first quarter and an 82-yard touchdown pass to Luke Gilbert at 14:36 of the second. Ohio answered with Matt Vezza's 8-yard throw to Riley Neer at 7:28. Garrison Rippa kicked a 22-yard field goal with 0:57 left in the half, and Darren James-Hamilton returned a kickoff 98 yards at 0:44 to make it 17-14 at halftime.
Khristian Lando's 4-yard run at 7:57 of the third gave the Gamecocks a 24-14 lead. Will Hryszko's 23-yard field goal at 14:57 of the fourth cut it to 24-17, and Victor Rosa's 1-yard run with 1:34 left tied it at 24.
Neither team scored in the first overtime. In the second, Hryszko made a 43-yard field goal and Rippa matched it from 28 yards. The third overtime was also scoreless, and in the fourth Davis's two-point run was the only score.
Creel finished 18 of 24 for 265 yards and ran 29 times for 120 yards and a touchdown; Jacksonville State totaled 447 yards to Ohio's 262 and converted 9 of 15 third downs. Vezza was 10 of 12 for 80 yards and added 67 rushing yards on 12 carries. Ohio did not turn the ball over; the Gamecocks lost a fumble. Michael Molnar made 13 tackles. Attendance was 21,037.
