Western Michigan beat Monmouth 49-14 on Saturday at Waldo Stadium, with Broc Lowry throwing three touchdown passes and Jalen Buckley running for three scores.
Lowry threw 13 yards to Baylin Brooks at 4:36 of the first quarter and 23 yards to Egypt Nelson at 10:53 of the second. Buckley's 1-yard run at 4:47 made it 21-0 at halftime, and his 11-yard run at 14:03 of the third pushed it to 28-0. Monmouth's Frankie Weaver threw 5 yards to Tra Neal at 11:20, but Lowry's 12-yard pass to Brooks at 9:10 and Buckley's second 1-yard run at 3:55 made it 42-7 after three quarters. Trey Petty threw 21 yards to Ryan Brotherton at 4:11 of the fourth, and Nazir Treadwell's 1-yard run with 0:15 left closed the scoring.
Lowry finished 14 of 20 for 212 yards and three touchdowns, and led the Broncos with 40 rushing yards on four carries. Aveion Chenault caught four passes for 101 yards. Weaver was 28 of 46 for 273 yards for Monmouth; Neal caught seven passes for 106 yards and Elijah Jennings ran 19 times for 87 yards. The Hawks outgained Western Michigan 431 yards to 414 and converted 11 of 20 third downs, but lost two fumbles and went 1 for 5 on fourth down. Western Michigan did not commit a turnover. Attendance was 24,605.
