No. 8 LSU beat Louisiana Tech 45-14 on Saturday at Tiger Stadium, scoring 14 points in the third quarter and 21 in the fourth despite four turnovers, three of them Sam Leavitt interceptions.
Scott Starzyk kicked a 29-yard field goal at 6:36 of the first quarter and Leavitt ran 5 yards for a touchdown at 3:46 for a 10-0 lead. Louisiana Tech's only first-half points came on Jordan McRae's 100-yard interception return at 1:53 of the second, and LSU led 10-7 at halftime.
Starzyk's 25-yard field goal at 10:12 of the third, Leavitt's 9-yard run and two-point pass to Malachi Thomas at 4:32, and Starzyk's 23-yarder at 2:12 made it 24-7. Leavitt scored from 5 yards again at 13:32 of the fourth and threw 10 yards to Trey'Dez Green at 9:39 for a 38-7 lead. Blake Baker's 67-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Mickens at 8:08 answered for the Bulldogs before Landen Clark's 7-yard run at 1:48.
Leavitt finished 25 of 38 for 344 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. Green caught six passes for 104 yards, and Princewill Umanmielen had three sacks. Baker was 11 of 21 for 128 yards for Louisiana Tech, which finished with 140 total yards and minus-3 rushing yards on 31 attempts; Alonzo Jackson Jr. had three sacks and 12 tackles. LSU totaled 528 yards and held the ball for 34:09. Attendance was 102,321.
