Eagles hold off Commanders 24-22 as late two-point try fails

Philadelphia beat Washington 24-22 on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.

Drew Stevens' 55-yard field goal at 11:23 of the first quarter gave the Commanders a 3-0 lead. Jalen Hurts' 17-yard pass to Dallas Goedert at 14:11 of the second put the Eagles in front, and his 9-yard throw to Dontayvion Wicks at 6:27 made it 14-3. Jacory Croskey-Merritt's 1-yard run with 1:50 left in the half, with the extra point blocked, cut it to 14-9. Jake Elliott's 35-yard field goal with 0:44 left in the third stretched the lead to 17-9.

Jayden Daniels' 10-yard pass to Stefon Diggs at 9:59 of the fourth brought Washington within 17-16. Hurts answered with a 43-yard touchdown pass to Goedert at 6:02 for a 24-16 lead. Daniels' 1-yard pass to Antonio Williams with 1:01 remaining made it 24-22, but the two-point pass failed.

Hurts finished 14 of 25 for 203 yards and three touchdowns; Goedert caught 4 passes for 77 yards, and Saquon Barkley ran 15 times for 83. Jihaad Campbell had a sack. Daniels was 18 of 34 for 164 yards and two touchdowns. Williams had 4 catches for 64 yards, and Croskey-Merritt carried 16 times for 63 yards. Frankie Luvu recorded a sack.

Washington held the ball for 33:20 and ran 67 plays to Philadelphia's 53, but the Eagles outgained the Commanders 318 yards to 295 and were 6 of 14 on third down to Washington's 5 of 15. Neither team turned the ball over. Attendance was 69,879.
